Jacquie Greenfield to appear at Center Point book signing Dec. 11

Center Point Friends of the Library is hosting a book signing by Palo author Jacquie Greenfield from 10 to noon Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Center Point Library.  Jacquie, who writes contemporary Western romances with a happy ending guaranteed, has just had her third book, "Colorado Pride," published.

Cooling Dance Spectacular to be Dec. 12th in Vinton

Cooling Dance Spectacular will be coming up on December 12th at the VSHS auditorium!   Let the gift of dance be a part of your holiday as the Cooling Dancers present their annual December concert “A Holiday Dance Spectacular 2010.” The event will be held Sunday, Dec. 12th, at the VSHS Auditorium in Vinton.  Curtain times are 1:00, 4:00, and 7:00 p.m., and admission is $2.00 at the door.  Dinner is available for all guests in the high school cafeteria between shows, with proceeds going to the VS post prom event.

Benton Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioners to meet

  The next meeting of the Benton Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioners will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at the District Office, located at 1705 West D Street, Vinton, IA.  The meeting will begin at 8:00 a.m.   Agenda items include:  approval of minutes, approval of treasurer’s report and bills, approval of conservation plans, Watershed Reports, an update on NRCS activities, correspondence, cost share programs, other routine business, and scheduling of the next meeting.

Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame seeks nominations

  The State of Iowa announces the release of nomination materials for the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame, which is the most prestigious state-level honor volunteers can receive.  The people selected are those who have forever changed their community, the state, the nation, or the world with their volunteer service and action.   "It's not at all surprising to me that Iowa is ranked second in the nation for its state volunteerism rate," said Adam Lounsbury, executive director of the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service.

The Community Event in Shellsburg to be held

The Community Event will be held at the Shellsburg Legion Hall on December 4th and 5th.   There will be craft and art vendors as well as a gift shop, food, drawings, a Library Story Time, special visitors Santa as well as "The Grinch" will be there! Brandon Christmas Events December 3rd and 4th

Brandon will hold it's 18th Annual Christmas Festival.  The Candy Cane Lane will be at the Brandon Area Community Center.  Santa Claus will be available to have your picture taken with him from 5-8:30 p.m. for $4.00. There will be the Christmas Tree Decorating Contest as well as the Wreath and Gift Basket Auction.  A raffle with homemade items made by local craftsmen, the tickets are only 2 for $1.
